Living the Vegan Life
This is the first posting for The Mississippi Vegan!
After reading Alicia Silverstone's book, The Kind Life, my family and I have become vegans. My husband and I decided to become vegans for our health and our twin girls' health. We have 4 year old twin girls, Hallie Elizabeth and Mettie Anne. They have made this transition very easily.
Mettie Anne & Hallie Elizabeth
We started by cleaning out our pantry and fridge and donating food to people we know-did not want to waste it by throwing it in the trash. Then we hit Whole Foods in Memphis, my husband calls it Whole Paycheck! We stocked out pantry with organic non GMO vegan foods. We started off buying vegan style meats, now I make our own on Sundays for the week. I bought several cookbooks from Amazon and Ebay- the recipes are a starting point-almost every recipe I tweak to make it better.
Household items
I tossed almost all my cleaners to make room for Green cleaners. Green works and I subscribe to the Honest Company monthly shipment- save by adding on the extra three-you get free shipping! I get their laundry items, shampoo, veggie cleaner, dish detergent, stain spray- each month I add on new items to try. Walgreens has their own plant based cleaners and laundry detergent- they have a great smelling laundry softener that I get because Honest does not make one.
We even switched to vegan deodorant. I like Schmidt's Lavender and Sage and another brand I found on Esty.com- Pink Cupcake and it smells SO GOOD!
